Sunday Music & Grieg & Ave Maris Stella

“Ave Maris Stella,” Edvard Grieg. Choir, Arkansas State University Male Chorus, directed by Alfred Skoog.

Ave, maris stella,
Dei mater alma,
Atque semper virgo,
Felix coeli porta.

Solve vincula reis:
Profer lumen caecis,
Mala nostra pelle,
Bona cuncta posce.

Vitam praesta puram,
Iter para tuum,
Ut, videntes Iesum,
Semper collaetemur.

Sit laus Deo Patri,
Summo Christo decus,
Spiritui sancto;
Tribus honor unus.

Hail, star of the sea,
loving Mother of God,
and also always a virgin,
Happy gate of heaven.

Break the chains of sinners,
Bring light to the blind,
Drive away our evils,
Ask for all good.

Keep life pure,
Make the journey safe,
So that, seeing Jesus,
We may always rejoice together.

Let there be praise to God the Father,
Glory to Christ in the highest,
To the Holy Spirit,
One honor to all three. Amen.

I had no idea that’s what the song meant! I love learning new things, especially ones that aren’t medicine-related. Thanks for the edumacation, Diddy!

      You’re mulcome, Dave!

Actually, you’re still ahead of me here, because I didn’t even know the song till yesterday. I cast out further and further for Sunday music and find all kinds of stuff I never heard. Classical is a gold mine. Jazz is pretty slim pickin’z.
