Sunday Music & Lux Aeterna & Ligeti

Lux Aeterna, by György Ligeti, performed by Cambridge Clare College Choir, conducted by Timothy Brown. From the album Illumina (1999). OK, I admit I’m kind of going out on the outer edge with this one.

This piece was in the soundtrack for Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Our faithful Wikipedia informs us that the words are from the Reqiuem Mass:

Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine, cum sanctis tuis in aeternum, quia pius es. Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine.

(May everlasting light shine upon them, O Lord, with thy saints in eternity, for thou art merciful. Grant them eternal rest, O Lord, and may everlasting light shine upon them.)

  1. I can see why Kubrick used it 2001. It has that hauntingly disturbing quality to it. Interesting pick.
