will try to balance amb’s enthusiasm with a more balanced approach: Gotta love Snoopy and gang. The music and animation rocks for sure, but I think I’m the only person on the planet who doesn’t get why Charlie Brown and his friends are funny. Always feel like I’m missing something when I read the comic strips.

Actually, I’m sort of with you on this, Liz, up to a point. I got back into the music now purely via the Chick Corea cut below, and it led me to nice Youtubes, though Vince Guaraldi’s theme has always been cool.
I have a complicated relationship with Peanuts. I was rarely lol about Peanuts strips, though I found the characters sympathetic and appealing. Peanuts was more like philosophical and poignant (failure, futility, sadness, isolation, unrequited love) than funny, except for Snoopy’s antics. For nostalgic reasons, I’m attached to the specials somewhat, though the child actor voices are kind of stiff and the animation is low grade (or “understated,” to put it charitably). But the last time I watched a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special, on a grainy VHS recording that I inherited from someone who moved, I almost burst into tears, overcome by a wave of nostalgia and sadness for a lost age (or something). Partly hormones kicking in with advancing age, no doubt. So the Charlie Brown specials definitely do create a mood.
